Multiplexed Systems -The future of onboard electrical control

In-vehicle networking, also known as Multiplexing, is a method for transferring data among distributed electronic modules via a serial data bus.

Common sensor and control data, such as vehicle speed, engine temperature, etc. are available on the network, so data can be shared, thus eliminating the need for redundant sensors.

One of the key benefits of Actia's Multibus multiplexing system is the ability to add functions without adding new hardware or decreasing reliability.

Advantages Of Multiplexing

Put simply, by reducing the loom & removing the fuse boxes, relays and the associated cabling systems, cable trays, fixing system and other wiring accessories

Multiplexing simplifies the vehicles electronics, whilst at the same time allows functionality and control that was unheard of by using 'traditional' systems.

Multiplex - A Modular Solution

By designing it's Multibus system in modular form, Actia have developed a very powerful system that can be used on a number of different types of vehicle.

By reducing the wiring loom and virtually eliminating all fuses & relays the Actia Multibus system increases reliability and reduces installation complexity.

Modules are programmed for their use within the system and are linked using a CAN network.

The system functionality can be rapidly changed by modifying the software - often without changing or adding new hardware.

This modular design makes such modifications easy to perform and reliable in use.

Multiplexing - In Action

Multibus is a very versatile system. It can be used on the following types of vehicle:- Buses, Coaches, Fire & Rescue, Refuse Collection, Road Sweepers, Rail Maintenance Vehicles - in fact any application requiring the effective and dynamic control or monitoring of the vehicle electrical system.

Multiplexing can control & monitor a wide range of electrical functions (removing the need for individual electronic controllers) including

External lighting, Instrument cluster, Switch panels, Message centre , Door control, Ferry lift, Internal lighting, Heating / Air con, Retarder, Wipers, Mirrors, Kneeling
